May:

Early May sees the annual “Big Boy Toy Show” in Brattleboro; for those boys who can never have enough toys, as well as entertainment for other members of the family.


The weekend of Memorial Day the area hosts Morris Dancing in Vermont.  Teams of dancers from all over North America converge on Southern Vermont.  Elliot Street in Brattleboro , is the site of this very entertaining spectacle - if you have never seen Morris Dancing you must come.


June:

Early in June every year downtown Brattleboro hosts the Strolling of the Heifers.  This is always a very popular event and attracts a variety of local vendors as well as international media attention.  For more information visit www.strollingoftheheifers.com>


July:

The annual Independence Day celebration at Grafton Ponds to benefit the Brattleboro Museum and Arts Center is generally held on July 3rd.  Enjoy the Vermont Symphony followed by a dazzling firework display.  For more information and ticket prices please visit

September:

The last weekend in September is when the Green Mountain Head Race is held, for more information visit <www.rowgmh.com>


The last weekend in September is when Landmark College holds it’s Fall Family Weekend.


October:

On the Sunday of Columbus Day Weekend the nearby village Dummerston holds it’s annual Apple Pie Festival.  Volunteers spend the days leading up to that weekend baking pies for sale by the slice or for the whole pie.  Vermont cheddar is also available for sale to accompany these delicious homemade pies.

Generally on the third Saturday of October nearby Keene, NH hosts it’s annual Pumpkin Festival.  In past years thousands of visitors have been amazed at the sight of the more than 25,000 carved pumpkins that lined the streets of downtown Keene.  For more information on this year’s festivities visit www.pumpkinfestival.com

November:

Outdoors:

There is an abundance of outdoor activities in the area: cross-country skiing, snow shoeing and hiking.  The close by Connecticut and West Rivers offer kayaking in the warmer months.  Southern Vermont is also home to some spectacular golf courses.

Hickory Ridge House has, in its backyard an 8.5 mile cross-country ski trail which is groomed and maintained by our neighbor, the Grammar School.  The trail which runs through the Hickory Ridge House property winds through the adjacent woods and some of the most beautiful countryside in Southern Vermont.


During the summer one of the most popular spots is the local swimming hole.  Located just a quarter of a mile along Hickory Ridge Road, it is the perfect place to cool off after a day of hiking or biking.
